About this role

micro1 is engaging Physical Sciences Research Assistants to contribute specialized expertise to a customer's innovative project. In this role, you'll apply your expertise to help train next-generation AI systems. Your work will shape how models learn, reason, and perform through high-quality, real-world input. No prior experience in AI is required, your domain knowledge is what matters.

Scope of Work

  • Design and author advanced evaluation tasks in the physical sciences, encompassing experimental analysis, computational modeling, and technical reasoning.
  • Source, synthesize, and curate authentic research artifacts, including datasets (CSVs, spreadsheets), computational results, and scientific references.
  • Craft scenarios and problem statements reflecting the complexity of real-world technical challenges, avoiding simplified or textbook-based examples.
  • Define rigorous methodological approaches and quantitative solutions for each task.
  • Develop detailed, 35+ item grading rubrics that assess technical rigor, numerical accuracy, interpretation quality, and adherence to scientific protocols.
  • Document protocols and experimental reasoning with clarity to ensure reproducibility and rubric fidelity.
  • Collaborate with project leads to ensure each task meets high standards of methodological integrity and benchmark relevance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in physics, chemistry, materials science, or a closely related discipline.
  • Minimum of 2 years of hands-on research experience or applied technical project work in a physical sciences domain.
  • Proven methodological rigor and strong quantitative analysis skills in scientific contexts.
  • Demonstrated ability to document complex technical procedures and results in clear, professional written English.
  • Experience authoring or evaluating scientific rubrics or assessments is a plus.
  • Familiarity with handling large volumes of technical data and diverse document formats (e.g., PDFs, spreadsheets).
  • Commitment to high standards of protocol and rubric fidelity throughout project assignments.

Compensation Structure

Compensation is output-based; experts are paid per task that meets the project specifications. The time required to complete work may vary depending on the expert’s experience and workflow. Minimum submission requirements apply. Experts must submit a minimum of tasks per week.

Start Timeline & Availability

We typically fill roles within 48 hours and are looking for experts ready to jump in right away. If selected, we expect you to start your first tasks within 24 to 48 hours of completing onboarding.
