About this role

Overview

Malay trips AI on register: formal written Malay and everyday colloquial speech pull in different directions, and the model blends them awkwardly. It mishandles affixes that change a word entirely and often cannot tell where Malaysian usage parts from Indonesian, which a native speaker sees straight away.

As a Malay Expert, you'll judge and correct AI output in Malay, teaching models to match the register and the region.

What you’ll actually do

  • Review translations between English and Malay for meaning, flow, and register.
  • Score and rank model output in Malay, catching misused affixes and mismatched formality.
  • Write the better version when the model falls short, natural enough to read as native.

Roles this fits

Common backgrounds: Malay Linguist, Bilingual Reviewer, Localization Specialist.

What we look for

  • Native or near-native fluency in Malay.
  • A feel for affixes and for formal versus colloquial usage.
  • Clear written English: your explanations are the training signal.
  • No degree required. We care about what you can do, not where you learned it.

Compensation

$25 to $40/hr depending on task difficulty and specialization. Many contributors add $10k to $100k+ a year; some make it their full-time income.
