Writer, editor, journalist → Prompt and response writing
From writer or editor to LLM training data author
Generative AI gutted content work. Free training to write the prompts and reference responses labs pay for, and to grade the writing models produce. Certification and placement support included.
What happened to the job
Content budgets moved to generation almost overnight. Staff writing, editing, and subbing roles were cut first at outlets that measured words rather than reporting, and freelance rates followed them down.
Why you are already good at this
Somebody has to write the examples a model learns good writing from, and somebody has to judge whether its output is any good. Both need a person who can hold a house style, hit a brief exactly, and explain in two sentences why one draft beats another. Editors do that reflexively; it is the whole job.
- Writing prompts that probe a specific capability rather than quiz the model
- Producing reference responses to a supplied style guide, not your own voice
- Diagnosing why a written sample was rejected and repairing it
- Grading model writing and naming the deciding property with evidence
